This is officially my crack drama of the year. While “Boys Over Flowers” was likewise a crack drama, it was the kind of bad crack that left you miserable and drained and watching out of obligation. But this one! This one is hilarious, over-the-top, serious, everything good all at once, all in good measures.

I’ve watched 95% percent of all Hong sister dramas and this one may be their best one yet. While it’s only 6 episodes in, there have been so many little details that have delighted my ass off. While this drama isn’t devoid of the k-drama “usuals” — bad boy/good girl, guy who treats girl better loses her to the guy who doesn’t treat girl as well, evil bitch second female lead — there are so many little things that are completely different than what we usually get that I don’t even mind the typical set up.

I’ve been thinking for a good while what term to describe this drama would be, and I think it’s the word “organic.” Everything is funny, sad, OMFGHILARIOUS, angsty, understated in a very, very organic way. Nothing is contrived, so it’s easy to laugh along to jokes or feel sad for characters instead of being like, “Um, that’s not realistic. At all. Nobody would do that. Ever.” (Something that often ran through my head when I watched BOF.)

I think starting from this point I’m going to be blogging weekly about the drama, jotting down post-ep thoughts. Maybe if I’m up for it I’ll be recapping/giving brief summaries of the episodes as well. We’ll see. Wheeee, fun K-dramas! Good to have you back!
