Drama styling tips #5: Greatest Love

Haven’t done one of these in forever, yes? (Other dramas I’ve done in this series: Bad Guy, Moon Lovers, Personal Taste.)

So I didn’t really finished this drama — lost steam at about episode 12 and never clocked in the rest — but this was worth watching for styling inspiration alone. I’m going to take a gander and say that Gong probably styled herself, because Gu Ae-jung’s fashion sense is really reminiscent of Gong’s personal style. And I love me some Gong Hyo-jin personal style. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Gong has one of the most beautiful smiles ever ever EVER. I have such a crush.

Kdramaland is a small, small place

This is a chart of how super interconnected Korea is. It shows how actors in the currently airing May dramas are connected to other actors in currently airing dramas.

The first seeds of this were laid down when I randomly thought to myself, “Kang Ji-hwan is in a new drama. Sung Yu-ri is in a new drama. They did a drama together before!” The Korean industry is tightly-knit, so I knew there were more connections in the May dramas than I bothered to figure out, but it wasn’t until I actually charted the relationships down did I realize that everybody in each of the May dramas is connected to someone else in another May drama in some way, big or small.

The numbers are telling of how tiny the industry is: in a single chart of 16 actors, 5 of them are/were leads of Hong Sister dramas–3 female, 2 male. Everyone has at least one direct connection to someone else on the chart. Other fun things I noticed, after the jump.

If you’re currently drama fiending like I am, here’s a list of premiere dates and stats for upcoming dramas so you know just when to go crazy:

  • 05/04 (Wed.) – BEST LOVE (MBC)

    – Starring Gong Hyo-jin, Cha Seung-won, Yoon Kye-sang, Yoo In-na
    – Shenanigans to the n’th degree of a hated ex-idol (Gong) and a beloved actor (Cha)
    – (+) The entire cast!
    – (-) Possibly stupid female lead, even stupider secondary female

  • 05/09 (Mon.) – LIE TO ME (SBS)

    – Starring Yoon Eun-hye and Kang Ji-hwan
    – (+) Video teaser reveals that this might be a lot funnier than I expected because Kang Ji-hwan is funny (and fine as hale to boot)
    – (-) Forced fake marriage. Sigh. When will we tire of this?

  • 05/11 (Wed.) – ROMANCE TOWN (KBS)

    – Starring Song Yu-ri, Jung Kyu-won, Min Hyo-rin
    – (+) Jung Kyu-won, and the possibility that he will be shirtless
    – (-) Plucky, happy-go-lucky girl serving rich, uptight chaebol

  • 05/25 (Wed.) – CITY HUNTER (SBS)

    – Starring Lee Min-ho and Park Min-young
    – (+) Lee Min-ho playing a different character every time he stars in a drama
    – (-) Park Min-young

  • 05/30 (Mon.) – RIPLEY (MBC)

    – Starring Lee Dae-hae, Park Yoo-chun, Kim Seung-woo, Kang Hye-jung
    – (+) Seeing Kang Hye-jung back on the small screen, watching my imaginary baby daddy Kim Seung-woo
    – (-) Possibly trainwrecky story filled with really melodramatic betrayals and revenges
