Easily, with no competition, my favorite track off the album. This song is my jam for the summer. I wish he promoted this song instead of “I Need a Girl” :(

“Solar” as a whole was really underwhelming and too simplistic. I didn’t dislike anything, but it was a lot of “meh’s” and shrugging. Nowhere near how good his “HOT” album was, unfortunately.

The second half of the album was much better than the first, though listening to Move may be the only time I listened to a fellow Asian rap in English and gotten goosebumps out of undying embarrassment. It was greasy, cheesy, and so disgustingly unoriginal. I felt dirty listening to it.

Favorite song: Break Down
Songs I really like: Superstar, 니가 잠든 후에
Songs I didn’t used to like, but because of how boring the album is, I ended up liking: Wedding Dress, Where U At
The rest: Meh.

I’m not complaining though, I’ve been waiting for this album and some new material from Taeyang, and I got it. Like I said before, I don’t hate anything, a lot of these songs just aren’t as compelling as I expected them to be.

T-ara has a pretty good first album, but I feel like the quality of their music overwhelms their actual performing abilities — as in, they have really good material, but they either promote the songs that don’t showcase quality, or they promote songs that they don’t have the ability to perform. “Bo Beep Bo Beep” and “TTL” aside, “Crazy Because of You” and “Like the First Time” performances are a mess. I’ve watched all the “Crazy Because of You” performances they’ve done thus far, and I still can’t tell when it’s them actually singing or when it’s backtracking. Same goes for “Like the First Time.” While there’s not excessive autotune in the song, the synth and other loud bass-generating sounds in the song drown out all of their voices and thus they barely have to actually sing because the backtrack will take care of it.

I really like “Like the First Time,” though, because I like how it’s unrushed sounding but at the same time has the dance beat going on. It also sounds really Lily Allen-esque, which I haven’t decided if it’s a good or bad thing.

IU’s “Growing Up” is a good album. She has a lot of talent that is completely wasted in the biz. She actually knows music, which is a rarity within the pool of brainkilling idols that she’s always up against. It’s a losing battle because she’ll never shine where it matters. I don’t know why her management dumbs her down to make her more acceptable to the mainstream, because it’s not gaining her any more fans than when she performed music with artistic merit. “Marshmallow” is an insult to her intelligence, especially because she’s capable of something like this:

Give this performance something on the grand scale of Big Bang’s “Lies” from the 2007 MKMFs and it’d make for an amazing concert performance.

Meh. His last project was “Air City” and I like K-dramas, but I don’t like em that much. (So I’ll just read the recaps that Dramabeans did :D)

Anyhoo, I remembered as I was browsing recaps that DBSK did two songs for the Air City OST, one of which is one of my fave DBSK songs. Really brings back the memories:
