Loving the beltedness and studdedness of everything.

Every time fashion week commences, I feel five times as lazy as the last because I am prone to avoiding keeping up with shows every hour of every day for like, 4 weeks straight.

3.1 Phillip Lim


I expected some stunning shit from Phillip Lim because his show last season was easily my favorite, but this was … not so great. There was way more bad than good and that just doesn’t make for a very good collection.

Also, another label I can’t ever seem to get into: Proenza Schouler. I just don’t get it, man. Yet another season that doesn’t help me understand their hype. I love their accessories, but their clothes are just so underwhelmingly normal and doesn’t justify the hype. A ton of celebrities carrying your one really popular bag really shouldn’t equate to a freakish cult following …

DKNY

DKNY is becoming a consistent favorite of mine. Sure it’s the more “commercial” line (as compared to its parent line, Donna Karan), but at the end of the day, I like lines full of pieces that I can wear. The shows are also styled very nicely, and I love that the show always sticks to a color palette, which appeals to me.

Shows that have disappointed: Rag & Bone (whyyyyyy oh whyyyy), Alexander Wang, Peter Som (!! this is so hideous), Band of Outsiders. I keep expecting Alexander Wang to blow me away with his clothes because there isn’t a contemporary designer I can think of who is as well loved as Alex Wang but I’ve disliked every single season he’s ever put out. Sad day.

I’m surprised at how much I liked some of the outfits from Ralph Lauren. I don’t really like Ralph Lauren because it never moves beyond the “All American” look and it promotes a very WASP-y aesthetic in a lot of its campaigns, but the shoes from the show are really pretty and the styling was great.

This is the show that I worked at and it was a pretty rad experience. Definitely wasn’t a painless experience but I’m glad I did it. Being in the tent for the first time was also pretty sick. I think I enjoy watching a show come together better than I did actually watching the show with everyone else. It’s a whole diff feeling being there behind-the-scenes and witnessing the adrenaline of everyone prepping a show.

- I’m starting to notice the use of pastel-colored nail colors on models/celebrities in a lot of shows/editorials. Korea really went crazy with pastel-colored nails a while back and Japan has always been queen of nail art for so long. As always, late to the game with trends, the west.

- As you can probably notice from my selections, I really like blazers, sheer tops, and skirts paired with sheer tops. Why do designers insist on letting their models model their sheer blouses without wearing underwear?

- Call me conservative, but I just really like designers who design wearable pieces. I don’t give a shit about statement things and POPFANTASTIC shows because at the end of the day, I love stuff that’s wearable.

- Rag & Bone never disappoints. Yes a lot of their shows are starting to look alike, but their style is a sort of urban chic that will never really go anywhere and everything just looks so effortlessly put together. Love outfits like that.
