Music Bank 5/21/10

Dude, good show. Okay, maybe not good show, just good lineup: 4Minute, Wonder Girls, Super Junior, f(x), CN Blue, Hyori, Rain, 2PM, Beast, Gummy, MBLAQ. Throw in some SS501, SHINee, Big Bang, 2NE1, and music shows will probably get their biggest viewership known to man. Bring it, summer!

Wonder Girls’ “2 Different Tears”

This song is terrible. I’ve tried listening to this track in full many, many times now, but have given up every single time until I watched this comeback. Which is a shame, because Ye Eun’s voice is my favorite female voice in Kpop and…just…I cannot do it. The song is so uninspired and too reminiscent, and the dance is just laaaaaame. The verses are disjointed and incoherent, and the rap is odd and has no flow. But again, YE EUN!!

MBLAQ’s “Y”

“Oh Yeah” is maybe the single worst debut song ever, which is why I could never truly get into MBLAQ until now. “Y” is decent, but I realize now that if you really want your audience pumped up, you have to have a song that has strong bass and detailed producing. KBS’ studio seems to be really big and voluminous and if your song is thinly layered, the sound seems to be very empty, which it is in MBLAQ’s case. And when you watch a performance and a song sounds empty, there’s just nothing to bob your head to. MBLAQ’s fanchants are loud, and not because they have that many fans, but because there’s just no music covering up their drone, lol.

CN Blue’s “Love”

Not the best song, but I really like whoever that is on Yonghwa’s left (your right). He’s got a Jason Mraz-y voice and it’s so light and lovely. (Give “Love Light” a listen, so pretty.) Yonghwa needs to stop rapping, it’s so awkward and forced.

4Minute’s “Who’s Next” and “Huh”

“Who’s Next” ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF. Doojoon is FINE AS HALE. Was that enough caps for you?!?!

I really like the way Cube Entertainment’s groups perform on stage. They have a lot of chemistry with each other and play off each other well. The problem is that I always hate their songs. “Huh” is terrible. I listened to it several times over before I realized it sounds like a lightly ripped off version of The Pussycat Doll’s “Beep.” The good thing about this song is that everyone really shines, minus Hyunah, which is just fine by me. Gayoon is so boss, I love her.

Rain’s “Hip Song”

I finally like this song. It’s got a really compelling beginning, and everything about it is what you want in a sexy Kpop song, but it’s just…….so difficult to watch live. Everything feels so contrived. The outfits for these perfs are a mess. The choreography tries too hard. (Rain in general tries too hard to be sexy. I just laugh at him instead of wanting to bone him.) This song just doesn’t look and feel very smart. Rain’s usually good at that but this time around, meh. Again, what the hell is he wearing?? He looks like a confused dodgeball player.

f(x)’s “NU ABO”

For some reason, this song just all of a sudden got very uncompelling with everyone’s comebacks. I liked it a lot when it first came out and when they were the only interesting group performing, but now that other songs have come along, it’s just fallen to the wayside. I don’t usually have ADD with Kpop like I do with Kdramas, but this song is very particular. I feel like it’s one of those experimental songs where people have to get into a certain mood before they can enjoy it. It’s really easy for it to get lost in a sea of more dance-y, more jump-y, more sexy Kpop dribble.

yeah Rain is dancing in legit Baer ICE HOCKEY pants…i honestly wonder how sweaty his…nether region must be because that stuff is…padding for sliding around on ice -_- It doesn’t look like he removed the padding either, so I applaud his determination to dance under stage lights with those on -__-

yeah, i watched mblaq on idol army, and i LOVED THEM!!! hahahaha they were seriously HILARIOUS, and i think they have decent talent: G.O can kind of sing and Mir can kinda rap

but who makes their songs is WACK i mean seriously, i hate there songs and outfits, except G.O.O.D Luv, which was decent.

poor rain.. his outfits are getting progressively stranger – i applaud his willingness to change, but sometimes.. we just want a black vest and jeans. please.

as for mblaq – i agree about the song sounding hollow, which is a shame bc it’s catchy and addictive, and a good album in general – though i think the choreo for ‘Y’ is a little too energetic at times which detracts from their singing
mblaq in general reminds me of 2pm’s trajectory (though it pains me to say it bc of where 2pm is now…) – ’10/10′ is pretty up there as a freakin worst debut song ever, but it sure was different, and they hit daebak with ‘A&A’, and ‘Y’ is gaining a lot of popularity in korea atm
as for the ‘loud’ fanchants – give them some credit ;) im sure it also has something to do with where they are in relation to the camera, but i read that they completely filled their seats too
