Cinderella’s Sister

This is just a mini-post to say that I am fucking floored.

Moon Geun Young is stunning. Like, I think I’m in love. I don’t even have words.

Some of the scenes in the four episodes thus far have been so well-crafted, well-shot, well-written, well-acted that I feel like I’m breathing in someone else’s life. This drama — and those scenes especially — is good for the heart, good for the brain, and good for the eyes.

I’ve had many bad experiences with beginning episodes of a drama being amazing and then having the rest of them tank on me (ahem, Will It Snow for Christmas?). Oh MAN I hope this series doesn’t whack the hell out halfway through because these four episodes have been better than any series in its entirety.

The thing I love about this drama most is that everything is up in the air. I don’t have anything figured out. After seeing one K-drama, you’ve essentially seen them all even if situations in each drama are different, but I’m still clueless about this one. Everyone producing this drama is trying to find ways to subvert the standard K-drama norms — even if it’s in the smallest way possible — and I am loving them all for it.

From the very start I was wary about starting Cinderella’s Sister because I wasn’t sure about Moon Geun Young playing a villain. Now, I’m not sure what she’s going to be, and I love it. And her chemistry with Chung Jung Myung?

Let’s just say that this drama has been perfect with casting.

Taec, when you show up, you better not ruin my shit. I will kill you if you do.

Am I the only one who finds Eun-Jo’s attitude really annoying and rather baseless? It was okay for the first episode or so, I guess, but it’s getting a bit ridiculous – we’ve already had plenty instances of new-kind-of-kindness-that-she’s-never-known, and it’s frustrating that NONE of them have had any real, long-lasting effect on her (except for Chun Jung-Myung’s “Eun-Jo-yah”).

erm, i think Eun Jo’s attitude *is* annoying, as in, no one would want to deal with a person like that in real life. but honestly, based on the drama, i didn’t grow up having to see my mum changes her partner every once a while, or any real hardship for that matter, and i could sometimes act spiteful like that for no reason at all. plus, Moon Geun Young does it so well that i think there’s more to the character that you can appreciate.

btw Amy, i agree with you! i knew what to expect from the leading pair but to me, Seo Woo so far has been the pleasant surprise. and i hope TaekYeon will prove me wrong since i’m keeping my expectations low (judging based on the 2PM TaekYeon). your caps are killing me though, why is Viikii being such a beech! and i agree that it’s like this drama is taking me along on such an enjoyable ride, i just watch and get enamored by one scene, and then get surprised by the beauty of the next.

I get what you mean. I was a little annoyed with her in the first two episodes because it was just typical teenage angst and anger, but I think MGY has now done a good job transitioning out of just being angry all the time. And I think the kindness thing has only been attempted by Ki Hoon and maybe Hyo Sun’s father. Nobody else is really doing anything for her. I don’t really see Hyo Sun’s kindness as the kind of kindness she’s looking for, because she’s more like a constant reminder that her mom will play nice with Hyo Sun over her for the sake of winning her father.

I think MGY does an amazing job portraying her characters angst, pain, and vulnerability. Actually I think all the main actors are great, and all the characters are so human and flawed (in a good way), such that viewers can relate and sympathize with each of them. Thumbs up for whoever did casting cause this cast works great together. I’m a bit worried about the time jump creating a rift in the pacing of the story tho. And ditto on the Taec comment.

Why it’s in Spanish is important to the character’s relationship and I don’t want to spoil you! ;)

well i know spanish and i can read most of the letter that her hand isnt blocking. he is telling her he left without a word because he wouldn’t leave if he saw her serious face, that he might be going alone but one day he would take her to Ushuaia and luma and even to the stars.also to wait for him at home.i can’t make out the rest her hand blocks most of the rest of the letter but he does repeat that “i wouldn’t go” again and again so i am guess he wrote that if he said bye to her in person he wouldn’t have been able to leave her.

i was kind of wary about this drama cos if the promo pics, i didn’t want to invest my time in a sad drama, but I’ve been hearing such great stuff about it that i may have to give it a go.

I love that you covered this drama!! I dont think EunJo has an attitude problem but more that she is just antisocial. I know I am; I don’t like people, don’t like crowds, don’t like society. Maybe I’m projecting my own personality onto her but I have no issue with how she acts toward everyone at the winery. I can’t quite put into words why EunJo is the way she is but dramabeans coverage of the dynamics between her and HyoSun is pretty close to what I think. “But she’s generally the type who reacts when people bother her; she doesn’t incite trouble. Therefore, this lie to Hyo-sun falls outside of her normal range of behavior, because she initiates the conflict.”
