You’re Beautiful, episode 11

The 11th episode on the 11th day of the 11th month… (And this post seemingly went up at 1:11. What are the chances!)

The characters seem to be changing a bit-by-bit as the episodes proceed. It’s a nice that the writers don’t have them change in order to create more obstacles. I enjoyed Shinwoo’s snark, Jeremy’s huge burst of honesty, and Minam’s ability to TALK BACK. Phew!

Oh and I totally fail at giving actual “brief rundowns” so from now on these are just going to be recaps/summaries, albeit less detailed than I have done for “Boys Over Flowers.”

Summary/Recap of episode 11

After Shinwoo reveals to the press that this person in front of him is his girlfriend, he also tells them that it’s not time to reveal who she is yet. Taekyung reels back from his shock, sees what Shinwoo is trying to do, and goes to help him by offering his jacket to cover Minam’s head. Shinwoo and Minam exit with a mob of reporters and photographers hot on their tail. As they trail out, Taekyung notices that Minam’s pin has fallen to the ground and watches as it gets trampled on.

In the privacy of their own dressing room, Shinwoo gives Minam a stern finger-waggin’. Only, it wasn’t really stern, it was more like he was trying terribly hard to hide how happy he was that she finally knows that he knows she’s a girl. Shinwoo lightly scolds her for not telling sooner, but tells her that he can’t be a good hyung to her anymore — they ought to start over. At that, Jeremy frantically barges into the room and also gets his game face on to give Minam an ass whoopin’…

…Only it turns out that he is DELIRIOUSLY happy (and relieved?) that Minam is a girl. He likes it! He loves it! He must be refrained from hugging her!

With that, Minam changes back into the appropriate male attire. Taekyung tells her that now they’re all on the same side. They have a responsibility for her, and she has a responsibility to them. She must take this to the end as a man. As the four exit to continue the press conference that was interrupted before, Taekyung stops and looks at Shinwoo. Shinwoo plays it off that it’s a relief that this whole situation has resolved itself and gives Taekyung a clap on the shoulder.

Reporter Kim looks over his pictures and finds it suspicious that Shinwoo has a girlfriend who he doesn’t wish to reveal to the public, yet came out to the public anyway. Taekyung was looking for someone before everyone was rushed into the auditorium. Not only that, but Taekyung also seems to have a secret girl somewhere; could there be a connection?

As the four call it a night, Jeremy suggests a congratulatory party. But before they can, they have to go through just onnnne more obstacle: Heyi. Heyi steps up to the four and feigns innocence, but Taekyung outs her as the person who put Minam to this. She drops her act immediately and coldly asks if the other two know about it too. Yep, they do, and unfortunately for her, they’re totally okay about it. No matter for Heyi though, because she’s still calling the shots. Taekyung cannot end this until she does, so ta-ta to them.

So about that congrats party…they don’t have food. Either they eat out or they go grocery shopping, and because Jeremy all of a sudden REALLY wants to be close to Minam, he suggests happily that they go grocery shopping. Taekyung, being the Debbie Downer he is, says that Minam is going to cause trouble, so they should just leave her at home. Shinwoo counter-suggests that Taekyung can stay home while they bring Minam out. Ha.

They roam around the mart, and as Jeremy looks at this and looks at that, it turns out that ANJell has done a fair number of commercials for the products he sees. One for this:

Oh and one for this:

And don’t forget, one for this:

At the checkout, Taekyung once again gives Minam a scolding for her million sixty-ninth mistake: losing the pin. Minam is really apologetic about it and was just about to tell him that it’s very precious to her and that she didn’t want to lose it when they’re interrupted. Taekyung never catches what she has to say, and thus wonders to himself at night when Minam is nowhere to be found. No waaay, she couldn’t actually be looking for it, could she? She definitely said that she’s relieved that she lost the pin. Or that she doesn’t care about it at all.

Right?!

Nah, she can’t be looking for it…

And we come to see just how little Taekyung really knows when it comes to certain matters. Minam is frantically back at the auditorium where the press conference took place, looking down every aisle and every lane for the clip. When Taekyung can’t find her anywhere in the house, he makes a trip to the auditorium as well, just to try to prove himself wrong. Only, the noise he makes by coming in alerts Minam that someone is there and she hides from his sight. Taekyung is relieved and disappointed that she’s not there looking for the pin, so he deems the case closed — she must not care about it, so he drops the pin from his hands and lets it fall before leaving.

But just after Taekyung leaves, Minam causes a dozen of chairs to collapse, creating a ruckus and drawing Taekyung back in. Right when Taekyung turns back to see what the noise was, he stops at the door when he gets a call, and misses Minam again. (Seems like Taekyung is now the person with bad timing?) Thankfully this time, Minam spots the pin on the floor and grabs it happily.

Taekyung got a call from his mother’s assistant, telling him that she’s not in a good condition and that she asked for him. Taekyung goes to her, and his mother tells him that her condition is worsening. Oh please, please, won’t he remake that song for her before it’s too late? Taekyung consents, and his mother is more than pleased.

Back at home, Minam tries to put the broken pin back together using some glue. Unfortunately for her and all those of us who have already seen American Pie, she ends up gluing her fingers together. Oh what are the chances! Right at this moment, Taekyung comes back from visiting his mother. Taekyung asks what she’s been doing, but Minam can only answer that she’s trying to fix something precious of hers, which led to … the little glue accident. Because Taekyung is an impatient fool but is also a big softie, he helps Minam unglue herself. Minam is apologetic about causing trouble, but Taekyung admits that at least this distracted him from something unpleasant. Someone has been bothering him to do something, and he’s finally decided to do it. Minam knows what the eff’s up, but tries to lighten the mood instead by saying that if she had know that, she would’ve stuck all her fingers together! Yay!

(I seriously get the jeepers when Jang Geun Seok smiles like that.)

Shinwoo talks to Minam about their little incident in front of the press. Shinwoo laments that this is going cause confusion with the girl that he does like, so…Minam should maybe help out with some explaining he has to do. Minam is more than happy to clear up some confusion and thinks nothing of it. But Manager Ma and Taekyung overhear their conversation, and they take it to mean that Minam is going to have to sacrifice her pride by telling Shinwoo’s love interest that she is not going to get in the way of their relationship. The way Manager Ma sees it, Minam is going to have to say something like, “I’m not anything. Kang Shinwoo likes you.” Oh Manager Ma. Where would we be without your good-willed, kind-hearted stupidities?

The AN Jell boys + girl sit around their studio when Jeremy suggests to Minam that they take Jolie out for a walk. Shinwoo has another idea — why not play badminton? Taekyung has the best idea — Minam must stay to memorize her lines with him. Minam says heck no, she already knows her lines pretty well, so they shall go play badminton.

Taekyung, in his usual manner, wants this to end swiftly and seamlessly, in his favor of course. He and Shinwoo team up, going against Minam and Jeremy. Taekyung goes WHACKO and shoots the shuttlecock like his life depended on it. In nice contrast, Shinwoo softly and smoothly bats to and fro with Minam and she enjoys it, much to Taekyung’s displeasure. Once again, he wants this game to be over like the 90s are over, so he launches in mad man mode and finishes it off. Minam is discontent and tells him that he may win in this, but she can win in other things.

Like “holding on,” for example. I’m not exactly sure what kind of not-real-sport sport this is, but Minam hangs on to a bar and just…hangs there. She doesn’t let go for even a second and boasts that she used to be able to beat all the boys at school. Taekyung tells her that fine, she’s good at something, she can get off now, but Minam refuses. Seeing her gall at refusing Taekyung’s demands, Jeremy tries to get her off the bar by reenacting their CF shenanigans. No go. Then Shinwoo gives it a go.

Yep, yep that worked. Minam is so surprised that she falls off, and she’s also so uncomfortable that she tells Shinwoo not to joke like that in the future.

What Manager Ma suspected before about Minam having to “tell the other girl” that she’s not into Shinwoo turns out to be true — Minam is actually going to go through with it. When Manager Ma gets wind of this, he goes to tell Taekyung, who treats this as Super Bad News, and he probably doesn’t even know why. He rushes to find Minam and grabs her just before she steps on the cab (seriously, if you were even half a second faster, you would’ve missed him).

In a spectacularly long hand-grabbing scene, Taekyung pulls Minam with him all the way back to the agency. This time, he’s pissed. He yells at Minam for her audacity to actually go through with this, letting his anger get the better of him, and outwardly expresses his frustration that she’s causing him such bother. Minam shouts back that nobody asked him to do as such, and nobody asked him to look after her either. Minam isn’t being ungrateful — because god knows she’s been more than enough — she’s just frustrated that he’s taking his anger out on her, when she’s trying so hard just to suck it up and let things be.

Just leave me in the dark then! Who told you to look at me?!

With that, Taekyung grabs Minam into a kiss — a kiss that surprises even himself.

Annnnnd scene.

At the beginning of the episode, I was very happy with the little talk that Shinwoo gave Minam, because it gave him an edge that he didn’t have for the previous 10 episodes. I don’t expect him to jump out from behind all of a sudden and take the lead away from Taekyung, but it’s good to see them finally on the same page.

But now that he’s still going along with the story he’s been telling Minam, he’s become a lost cause in my eyes. This is one big difference between him and Taekyung — Taekyung will act, but Shinwoo only reacts. He observes and waits for things to be set in their place before planning his next step. Taekyung is also meticulous, but he is more firm and decisive. Just look at Taekyung’s one swift instant of telling the boys that Minam is a girl versus Shinwoo’s multiple failed instances of trying to tell Minam he knows.

It makes me angry with Shinwoo, but then I remember he’s not a real person. And then it makes me mad at the writers, but I remember that they just need to create storylines and set up obstacles for the characters. So at the end of the day I’m just angry and I don’t even know who to be angry at :P

And a proclamation from me: I am legitimately going to stay away from all spoilers of this drama for the remainder of its broadcast. I was expecting a kiss from Taekyung and Minam anyway because it’s inevitable, but if I hadn’t known what exactly was going to happen in this episode, I would’ve been much more surprised.

Like you am a wee bit obsessed with the drama…it came out of no where and has completely taken over my life. Like many I anxiously wait for Wednesdays and Thursday to come and watch the episode raw even though I don’t understand a word of Korean (except I love you….cos boy do they say that a lot in Kdramas) because I can’t wait for the subs. Seriously OBBESSED & a little bit crazy I know.

After being introduce K Drama’s a year ago – I’ve been watching the good ones retrospectively, this is the first time I’ve watch an excellent drama as it happens… the waiting between episodes is killing me – I’m used to locking myself away for a weekend, with no contact with the outside world and watching episodes at once!

Another first for me is I am fangirling over the place for Park Shin Hye – often find the female leads a bit of a stretch with all the innocence’s, is there no other type of girl in Korea? But for the first time I really truly believe in the Minam innocence and find myself really routing for her and enjoying watching her too.

I usually watch drama’s because I have a thing for the guys, and this drama is no exception I have a big horn on for Jang Geun Seok – who is rocking the guy mascara (how the hell can he make that sexy????).

Anyway love your writing had me chuckling all the way through. COME ON EPSOIDE 12

I just read your tweet about finding tsks sub episodes. What I usually do is go the show’s baidu bar and somebody would usually post the torrent link of the episode right after it’s released by tsks. I download from btchina because I don’t have a tsks account. The thing is, I don’t know if tsks likes it when other websites post their torrents, so I try to alleviate my guilt by seeding as much as possible afterward. Sounds corny, but I want to do right by tsks especially when they churn out subs so quickly.

I used to have a TSKS acct, but I’m sure they’ve purged inactive members and I…would be an inactive member lol. I just prowl Soompi for torrent links now but that gets tiring, especially when I’m trying to avoid 4083098103981203918309 spoilery caps.

TSKS is the most amazing subbing group. I have an immense amount of love for them if only because they get their subs out by like 4-5PM my time, meaning it’s like 3-4 in the MORNING for them and that just takes effing dedication.

Yeah, I wish I had an TSKS account so I can express my love for them. And they’ve been even more rapid with YB. It’s not unusual to see torrents posted by 2:00 EST, so TSKS must have gotten started on it right after watching or even during. In fact, people at Baidu actually start worrying when the subs haven’t been released by 12, lol. Come to think of it, everything seems to be moving at lightning speed when it comes to YB.

Exactly…I see people at baidu complaining like within 4 hours after the episode has ended. XP It’s amazing how fast they sub! And time. And upload.

I’m glad I’m not the only one freaking out at the sheer number of spoilers all over the net. Ever since I got spoilt regarding the TK MN kiss, I’ve made it a rule not to visit soompi ever again (till Yb ends) and not to visit other sites that may contain spoilers, at least for the 3 days before an episode is to air.

I’ve never feared spoilers this much, ever.

i just watched this and i am :D :D EEEEEEK. I HAVE THIS REACTION EVERY WEEK.

i have to admit, i was laughing when shin woo was trying to be stern with minam because i couldn’t get over the dramatic irony. also, i really liked jeremy’s reaction. ADORABLE.

I LOVE THE SUPERMARKET SCENE. i love bonding scenes like that and if you don’t mind, i am right click+saving those .gifs. i also love all these little scenarios taekyung had for the pin. i wanted him to spot her in the auditorium but of course he didn’t because it is a kdrama and they always miss each other. how did i forget?

i was pretty much bawlin’ during taekyung’s freaking PSYCHOTIC badminton skills. as i was watching it, i was wondering what your reaction to it would be! yay for more bonding at the park! i was kind of disappointed shinwoo ruined it by kissing her. also, her reaction to it? :/ he is definitely going to get his heart cruuushed.

i try to stay away from spoilers too but someone on my flist posted the pic without the cut. i really wished i wasn’t spoiled for that.

i am glad the aunt moved out and i fast-forward the scenes with her and mo hwa ran. also, was it just me or was minam being particularly cutesy this episode?

oh, i saw the comment about not finding subs and try watching it on viikii! they have annoying commentary but you can easily turn it off with a click and they get it up really quickly. also, saw your tweet about photobucket. my photobucket account got exceeded too and then i uploaded to a different photobucket account and then THAT got exceeded too. wtf, i am so mad.

after the episode ends they show a preview for 12. i saw a scene where Jeremy says “why don’t we take a break and go to England.” it looked like they were at a bar/drinking beer. But i’ve seen ep12 three times already and i dont see that scene. i wonder where that scene went…
