You’re Beautiful, episode 7

I like Jang Geun Seok and his character so much in this. While he is the prototypical male lead with the usual good qualities about him, I like that his flaws are — and this is something you’d only say about drama characters — refreshing. There are two extremes in his personality, one that is extremely in-control, and one that totally lacks control. I like the range in Tae Kyung because I think it’s hilarious that he is so completely self-involved and apathetic, while simultaneously being very much dependent on others. Like, he won’t touch anybody ever and ever and ever, but when his night-blindness kicks in (which brings me the LOLs every single time) he will grab on to any face, boob, shirt, head he can for support. His flaws and assets mold into each other nicely.

Episode 7 was pretty interesting because we’re getting to the half-way mark and there needs to be a more obvious conflict at play. Shinwoo and Heyi are upping the ante by starting to show some obvious signs that they’re going to enter into the fighting rink. Up till now, Tae Kyung has been unaware of Shinwoo’s interest in Minam outside of the regular bandmate to bandmate relationship, but if he’s as smart as he tries to come off, he knows now.

Heyi at first wanted to spite Tae Kyung for humiliating her, but she’s softening. She’s no longer using Minam to get at Tae Kyung solely for revenge purposes, but rather, she’s using Minam as leverage to secure his attention. Is she still underhanded as ever? Yes. Is there even a tiniest chance Tae Kyung will like her back? Probably not. Does she still serve as an interesting obstacle though? Yep. It’s also a nice contrast because Heyi is so aware (even if it’s in a very self-serving way) and Minam is so gullible and pure-minded that when the two have to interact in some way, there is inevitably going to be conflict.

And finally, the best thing that has ever happened in a K-drama:

As entertaining as TaeKyung is throughout the series, he takes a backseat to the ridiculousness that is Jeremy’s hair. Every episode is a chance for me to burst my gut laughing at it wondering, “seriously? boys wear hair like this?.” Oh, and they up the ante with every passing episode.

I like Jeremy for his ridiculousness but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to continue once they start sobering him up in light of him being more honest with his feelings towards Minam. Starting to feel a teensy bit like a snoozefest.

true, but I hope he will turn out more like Nakatsu, ie. becomes extremly protective of Minam and gets jealous more often.

I haven’t seen the episode yet so I’ll try not to spoil it for myself by reading this recap but I must say that I’m loving Tae Kyung’s hair in the second pic. I hope he has it like that more often cause it looks great like that. Oh and that face at the end is precious.

Ugh,so tempting to watch this tonight but, alas, homework must take priority.
