A-Nation ’09
I’m pretty happy to say that I’ve been really satisfied with all their major live performances lately. I’m turning out to like “Stand by U” a lot more than I did originally, and I think it’s because I really hate the ballads of theirs that sound gut-wrenching, heart-wrenching, brain-dissolving, gravity-defying. “Bolero” is great and “Love in the Ice” is great, but I like ‘em light and simple. And as for “Survivor,” I don’t know why so many people don’t like this song! I love this song, moreso after watching all their live performances of it. I wish Yoochun stopped purposely letting that GUTTURAL scream leave his mouth, but all is good, son.
One thing I’ve always really liked about DBSK is their solidarity as a group. I think they’re one of the last boy groups of the “older” gen of Kpop boy groups that didn’t branch out too much from what they started out as when they first debuted. None of this sub-group, overseas group, MC-ing on the side, solo projects, daily drama actor, game show hosting BS. That stuff is all good and fun and I keep up with a lot of those things, but at the end of the day I like groups that…act like groups. (Where you at, Kibum????)
…Which is why I’m completely uncomfortable with Yunho doing his own drama, Changmin doing his own drama, Jaejoong & Yoochun doing a single, Junsu doing god knows what. They’re at their best when they feed off each other’s energy and that energy exists at its maximum when they’re performing on stage together. Jaejoong and Yoochun doing their rendition of “Begin” is effing whack. Yunho is a whack actor. Changmin I can’t say too much yet but I’m sure it won’t be too pretty. Junsu is only so funny/awkward because the others are around him to force him into that supreme state of discomfort, lol.
So, moral of the story – don’t break up and keep performing together as artists please. Or I will cry.
