UP!
Man, Carl Fredricksen is one of the best main characters in an animation in a lonnnnng time. The animation was SO gorgeous I was going gaga at everything; I already know I want to buy the DVD when it comes out just so I can cap the hell out of some of the shots. Nia (film student) tells me that people laugh at animators all the time because nobody takes animation seriously but people who work in animation are so so so impressive. Pixar is always impressive with animation but man, seriously, some of the shots in the film were amazing.
Also, Russell (the little kid) is Asian. No doubts about it. Yes he has white-ish skin, but dude, he’s Asian. Not cool that Disney/Pixar/whoever never gave him a last name, but he’s Asian! First main Asian character since Mulan (which, btw, according to this, was praised because it “depicted Chinese characters with realistic-looking eyes.” WTF)! Woo!
And now I shall proceed to add Wall-E and Ratatouille to the top of my Netflix queue. :D
